Management team sign new deals

Berwick Rangers can confirm today that Manager Ian Little and Assistant Manager Kevin Haynes have both signed contract extensions with the club.

The duo, who were previously contracted until the end of the 2020/21 season, have agreed one-year extensions until the end of the 2021/22 campaign, with the terms of their contracts renegotiated to see them admirably take wage drops amid the financial situation at the Football Club.

Darren Smith and Mark Beveridge will also continue to form part of Little’s backroom team for the 2020/21 season and beyond.

Speaking about his new deal, Little said:

“After good discussions with the Board of Directors, I am happy to confirm that myself, Kevin and the coaching staff have agreed contract extensions, which we have re-evaluated for the benefit of the club.

“We are very much aware of the financial difficulties facing every club and, with this in mind, I have accepted a 40% pay cut, with Kevin and Darren also taking cuts. We are determined to meet the challenge of improving our current situation and have the experience and knowledge to match this commitment.

“I’d also like to say a huge thank you to all our loyal supporters who continue to match our desire for success and, over the past few weeks, it has been fantastic to see fundraising initiatives be so successful at a time when there is no footballing action.”

Assistant Manager Haynes added:

“I’m delighted to be staying at the club for a further two years. Myself and Daz want to play our part in helping Yano stabilise the club and further develop the team we have started to build.

“We have had advanced and positive talks with some of our current squad and I believe we will have a commitment on paper when it’s possible to do so. At the moment though, I’d like to wish all the supporters well in this current epidemic and hope all guidelines are being followed to keep you and your loved ones safe.”

Speaking about Little and Haynes’ contract extensions, Chairman Brian Porteous added:

“First of all, I’d like to place on record my thanks to Ian, Kevin and Darren for readily accepting the renegotiated terms put to them, which they should be commended for.

“Their love and passion for Berwick Rangers Football Club cannot be questioned and I, along with the rest of the Board of Directors, plan to support the management team as best we can to give them the best possible chance of success in 2020/21 and beyond.”
