Kyle Baker back for another season
Fresh from the news that Cammy Graham and Blair Sneddon have committed to Stuart Malcolm’s playing squad for the 2023/24 season, Kyle Baker has become the latest member of the current squad to sign a contract extension.
The 23 year-old brother of fellow ‘Ger Lewis, Baker has predominantly featured as a left-back this season, but has also been pushed higher up into attacking positions to make his presence felt. In total, Kyle has made 5 starts and come off the bench a further 9 times in the black and gold this season. These appearances came either side of a loan spell at East of Scotland Premier Division side Dundonald Bluebell, where Kyle was based from September to January. In the latter part of this season, Kyle’s aerial threat has led to him scoring two goals – a late equaliser against Hearts B and the third goal in the excellent victory over East Kilbride earlier this month.
Stuart Malcolm has been delighted with the contributions of Kyle since returning to the side from Dundonald, saying he has ‘been highly influential in games, scored important goals, and performed to an excellent level.’ Stuart added that, ‘we knew Kyle has very strong attributes, it has just been a matter of getting him to put it all together. Since he has come back in, he has really done that and helped the squad to push forward together. He has been very influential in the changing room. Next season we are hoping to help Kyle to continue his development, and he is likely to get a lot more game time because of how he has played recently. We are delighted to have Kyle signed for next year, as he helps us out in a couple of positions. For the club it is another great signing to keep the squad together and make progress.’
Kyle himself said that it was an easy decision to sign an extension to his contract. He said, ‘since coming back in January I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. This is a great club to be a part of – from the lads in the changing room, through to the coaching staff and everyone connected with the football club. Looking ahead to next season, I want to kick on and see what we can achieve as a team overall.’
With Kyle Baker’s signature, Stuart Malcolm now has fourteen names on the squad list for 2023/24. These are: Calum Antell, David Ferguson, Michael Travis, Kyle Baker, Jamie McCormack, Blair Sneddon, Grant Nelson, Lewis Barr, Jordan Sinclair, Graham Taylor, Alex Harris, Cammy Graham, Lewis Allan and Liam Buchanan.
