‘Gers add Lawler on loan
The club can this evening confirm it has agreed a deal with Heart of Midlothian that will see teenager MacKenzie Lawler join the ‘Gers on a temporary transfer until early January.
As part of the deal, ‘Gers boss Ian Little will have a number of extension options available to him during MacKenzie’s stay, including the potential of discussing making the move for the youngster permanent.
MacKenzie, who turns 18 on December 1st, is a technically-gifted midfielder who prefers to play out wide.
A left-footer, he possesses a dangerous delivery and has previously been described as an exciting prospect by Hearts reserve manager and former Northern Ireland international, Andy Kirk.
The Jambos initially picked up MacKenzie from Dunbar United Colts and though his stay at Tynecastle was somewhat hampered by a long-term back issue, he returned the fold in early 2020 and now joins the ‘Gers ready for his first taste of senior football.
Lawler’s arrival is the second inside a week at Shielfield Park, with fellow youngster John Ward arriving on a free transfer and debuting in a 5-1 win at Upper Annandale on Saturday past.
Like Ward, MacKenzie is available to Ian Little for tomorrow’s trip to Civil Service Strollers and could make his Lowland League debut for the ‘Gers.
The club would like to thank the team at Heart of Midlothian for their support in helping making this deal come to fruition, and wish MacKenzie a warm welcome to Berwick Rangers Football Club.
