Teenager John Ward signs on for the ‘Gers

As you have noticed over the weekend, Manager Ian Little has strengthened his options on the left flank with the addition of teenager John Ward.

Ward, 17, signed on amateur terms following training last Thursday night and, as a result, was added to the squad for Saturday’s South Region Challenge Cup tie against Upper Annandale.

Playing at left wing-back, Ward – who was most recently on trial with St Johnstone – impressed on his debut, helping to set-up Berwick’s second and third goals in Lockerbie, supplying Jack Wright and Calum Smith.

Speaking about signing for the Dream Team, Ward said: “I’ve been at St Johnstone but it looks like that has kind of stalled at the moment, so one of the coaches there knows the gaffer here and I’ve ended up signing on.

“I found it hard to get going the first 15-20 minutes in this match – I think all of the lads did actually – but second half we were much better and I’m delighted the lads got onto the end of my balls for their goals.”

The club would also like to extend its thanks to fan Josh Turnbull, who has agreed to sponsor Ward for the remainder of the season.
