‘Gers launch third kit
The club is proud to unveil its third strip ahead of the new campaign today, which has been designed to be used as a platform to celebrate diversity and inclusion at the club, and promote good causes.
As Berwick Rangers Football Club continues to promote itself as a club for all, the strip will feature a colourless badge, as currently featured on all of the ‘Gers official social media platforms.
Elsewhere, one sleeve will feature the badge of the freshly-launched Berwick Rangers Community Foundation, as Berwick Rangers seeks to become a fully integrated, community club. The club would like to thank Frazer MacRobert, who kindly designed the logo, for his superb contribution.
The other sleeve, meanwhile, will feature the logo of the Chris Mitchell Foundation, an organisation established in honour of Chris and which aims to raise awareness on mental health and wellbeing for players, ex-players and staff working in Scottish Football.
And finally, having listened to fan feedback, the front of shirt sponsorship space will be left empty for our third shirt.
The strip may also be donned by Berwick Rangers Juniors throughout the new campaign, with their teams having the option to adopt it as a change strip if they desire.
The kit will join our stylish home shirt and Northumberland-inspired away jersey as available to pre-order at some point this weekend over on our Border Embroideries store.
About Chris Mitchell
A Scotland U21 international, Chris’ career saw him play for Falkirk, Ayr United, Bradford City, Queen of the South and Clyde. He made the agonising decision to retire from the game due to the travel requirements of a full-time work opportunity.
Chris transitioned into part-time football following a number of serious injuries, and underwent surgeries for knee ligament issues, along with groin and abdominal operations. He also underwent major spinal surgery during his last season, from which he never truly made a full recovery.
Despite achieving his boyhood dream of competing at the highest level of professional football in Scotland, the dramatic change in circumstances in his career led him to develop poor mental health and wellbeing in the months following his retirement, with Chris struggling from depression and anxiety.
Sadly, all the support from his family, friends and medical professionals could not deter him from ending his own life on the morning of Saturday 7th May 2016 at a railway level crossing, a short distance from the family home. He was just 27 years of age at the time of his tragic and untimely death.
About the Chris Mitchell Foundation
In his honour, the Chris Mitchell Foundation was established to raise awareness around mental health and wellbeing for players, ex players and staff working in Scottish professional football. Its vision is to dispel the stigma associated with mental health in Scottish professional football, and for it to be integrated into physical health and fitness training programmes.
The Foundation works collaboratively with sporting organisations and specialist organisations to provide much-needed support to those in need and promote and safeguard mental health and wellbeing on a national scale. Their vision is to dispel the stigma associated with mental health in Scottish professional football, and for it to be integrated into physical health and fitness training programmes.
As part of the organisation’s partnership with Berwick Rangers, the club will work with the Foundation’s team to deliver awareness initiatives within our own side, with the club recognising its responsibility to safeguard the wellbeing of a young squad, many of which have also made the transition from youth football with full-time teams.
Furthermore, the club will also work with the Foundation to assist in spreading the work about the valuable guidance and support they can offer, and will look to offer opportunities for their team to reach fellow Lowland League sides throughout the season.
The club wishes to thank the Foundation’s team for the opportunity to create a partnership and make a positive impact, and look forward to working together going forward. To learn more about the Chris Mitchell Foundation, visit cmfoundation.org.uk.
