Under 20s home league campaign kicks off Monday evening against Forfar Athletic

Forfar Athletic are the visitors to Shielfield on Monday evening for the opening home game of the Under 20s Development League East programme.
Kick off is at 7.45pm and entry costs are £4 Adults and £2 Concessions.

The team ran out 4-1 winners against Cowdenbeath last Wednesday evening and will be looking to continue a good opening to the campaign. This is the Loons first game in the league having had a free week due to the 7 team set up of the league meaning one team will miss a game each week. They filled the gap by playing a friendly against Forfar West End on Wednesday evening, ending in a nil-nil draw.

Last season the teams drew 2-2 in the final home game of the campaign which meant Berwick pipped them to second spot in the final table. Previously Berwick had won 3-2 at Shielfield in February whilst Forfar had run out 3-1 winners at Station Park in the November fixture.

From Wednesday night Head Youth coach Derek McKenzie said “it was a good start for us. We controlled large parts of the game although I’d have liked our passing to be a bit sharper. We scored some good goals with our second being particularly good to watch. Cowdenbeath were much improved on last season and we had to work hard for the win. But it’s a good platform for us to build on”.
Looking forward to this weeks game Derek said “we welcome Forfar to Shielfield Park on Monday in what we know will be a tough game. Last season was very tight between the 2 teams with a win, a draw and a loss recorded. We know that they will be well organised, physical and last season certainly had a fair bit of pace in their team that caused us problems. It will be a tight match up but one the boys are looking forward to”.

Local striker Stuart Briggs may return to the squad following injury however it will be too soon for defender Scott Hay.

The team lined up for a photo before last week’s opener in Kelty. Missing from the picture are Stuart Briggs (Striker) and Scott Hay (Defender).
Striker Daniel Watt has just moved on a 3 month loan to Hill Of Beath Juniors who play near Cowdenbeath.

Back row left to right Jack Gillan (Midfielder) Ciaran McKenzie (Defender) Grant Rose (Striker) Jack Murray (Midfielder) Jack Cook (Defender) Macaulay Jarrett (GK) Stuart Allan (GK) Daniel Watt (Striker) Ross Aitchison (Defender) Scott Sutherland (Striker) Ewan Herriot (Defender) Front row left to right Gary Windram (Mid/Striker) Keiran Jack (Midfielder) Jamie Chapman (Midfielder) Gary Dolan (Midfielder) Jordan Orru (Defender) Bradley Barrett (Striker) Callum Heath (Midfielder)
