Supporters Trust donates £3,000 to Football Club
Preparations for the 2020/21 season received another major boost today with the news that Berwick Rangers Supporters Trust have pledged £3,000 to the club.
One of the club’s supporters organisations, the Trust have requested that – like the 1881 Fund set-up the club – the contribution goes towards Manager Ian Little’s playing budget for the upcoming season.
With exactly £10,000 now in the 1881 Fund, alongside the £3,000 donation by the Trust and £570 raised through Donate a Ticket from Saturday’s Facebook Watch Party of the fixture against Rangers FC in 2012, it brings the club’s fundraising total to a hugely impressive £13,570.
Speaking about the donation, Berwick Rangers Supporters Trust Chairman, Andrew Allan, who was also recently announced as a new Associate Director at the Football Club, said: “On behalf of our members, the Berwick Rangers Supporters Trust Board have decided to make all their funds available to the Manager right now to help him build the best team possible.
“It’s not a king’s ransom, but hopefully it may make a difference not just in terms of money, but a tangible demonstration to prospective players of fans’ support to the club, the management team and the growing squad.
“Many a mickle maks a muckle and it truly does in terms of what The Trust can do for the club through membership and our activities, with 100% of membership subs are made available to the club.”
Director Dave Buglass spoke on behalf of the Board of Directors to thank the Supporters Trust for their kind donation and also announced a new fundraising milestone he hopes the club can reach before the end of May, which was the original deadline for the 1881 Fund.
“We knew that the Supporters Trust were intending to make a donation of £1,500 once the £10,000 target in the 1881 Fund had been achieved so when Andrew got in touch with us to say that the Trust were going to double it, we were absolutely over the moon.
“Whether it’s been donations to the 1881 Fund, virtual ticket money to Donate a Ticket or one-off contributions such as this, it is all massively appreciated by the Board of Directors and management team and, now that the fundraising total stands at an amazing £13,570, we have decided to increase our target to £15,000.”
Formed in 2003, the Supporters Trust boasts over 230 active members and exists to promote football in the local community, as well as secure the long-term future of Berwick Rangers Football Club. Since its inception, the organisation has donated more than £100,000 to the club, while it is also one of the club’s largest shareholders.
