MICHAEL McKENNA

The club have today reluctantly accepted an offer for Michael McKenna from Division One Arbroath. The player was out of contract at the end of this season and had signed a pre contract agreement at Arbroath for next season already. Arbroath were keen to get the player on board before the end of the season and the player was also keen to play at a higher level with the chance of the play off’s and with another potential step up to the Championship. The deal is set up and subject to paperwork going through at the SFA.

Manager Robbie Horn added

“I’m obviously very disappointed to be losing Michael and in an ideal world he would be longer term here. Since I came here he has been excellent for us and I think we have managed to get the best out of him.

We were offered a really good fee for Michael especially with only a few months of the season left and with him already signing a pre contract agreement it makes sense to cash in at this time, which was also what the player wanted too, or we were losing him for nothing in the summer. As I have said before I want players who are 100% committed to Berwick Rangers and want to be here but I can’t fault Michaels reasons for leaving as he wants to better himself by playing at a higher level and at the same time will be better off financially. We wish him all the best and he leaves on good terms and you never know one day he might be back at Berwick Rangers.”
