McCormack back for next year!

Berwick Rangers club captain Jamie McCormack has become the latest player to sign a new contract for the 2024/25 season, in what is a major boost to Thomas Scobbie’s preparations for next season.

McCormack, 32, has been a stand-out for the ‘Gers this season. His leadership, quality and experience have been demonstrated on a weekly basis, and these are all skills that Jamie will bring into next season too. Whether playing at right back, in the heart of defence, or in central midfield, he has become a firm favourite among Berwick fans. McCormack has made 25 starts and 1 appearance off the bench, with his only goal coming in a dramatic debut win against Celtic B. Despite offers to go elsewhere, the club is delighted that Jamie has committed to Berwick for another year.

This sentiment was echoed by ‘Gers manager Thomas Scobbie, who said, ‘For me, agreeing an extension with Jamie was an integral part of building the playing squad for next season. He has been a real leader for us, setting an example for the rest of the squad. This is not just true on the pitch on a Saturday, but also in the changing room and at training, where he makes sure those around him are putting in maximum effort. Jamie plays a key part in ensuring that the standards of the club are set very high, so I am delighted to see him extend his contract.’

McCormack himself spoke about how much he has enjoyed his time at the club, and how happy he is to be staying for another season. ‘All of the boys are really close, which was a big reason for signing again.’ Jamie went on to add, ‘I’m looking forward to next season – I think we have the squad to be challenging at the top of the league, and the gaffer has been brilliant since he took over. I’m hoping we can kick on next season and show everyone what we are capable of.’

Before McCormack and his teammates can look forward to next season, they are first aiming to end the current season strongly – starting with a trip to former SPFL rivals Cowdenbeath this Saturday. Berwick Rangers are next at home on Saturday 23 March, when they play Caledonian Braves in a 3pm kick off at Shielfield Park.
