Match Day 2 | BRFC vs Celtic B

Match Preview / Team News

League football comes to Berwick for the first time this season as the Dream Team welcome Celtic B to Shielfield Park on Tuesday.

Stuart Malcolm’s side will be looking for a massive improvement from a difficult season opener at Hearts B, where ten man Berwick were beaten 6-0.

Celtic will be coming to Berwick on the back of an impressive 3-1 home win over recently relegated Cowdenbeath, who spent over an hour playing with ten men.

Team News

The big absence for Stuart Malcolm is the suspension of Jamie Pyper, given a straight red against Hearts for a last man challenge. James Farrell picked up a concussion in the defeat yesterday while Lewis Baker missed out with a sickness bug but it’s hoped he could be back in the squad for Tuesday.

Liam Buchanan is still recovering from his hamstring problem and a late check will be required while Jordan Sinclair remains out.

Celtic’s squad should be deeper on Tuesday with a few youngsters featuring in the first team’s friendly win over Norwich at Celtic Park.

Previous Meetings

Celtic were victorious in both previous meetings between the sides last season, winning each 2-0. Rocco Vata and Adam Brooks were the scorers in the first meeting at Excelsior Stadium while Owen Moffat and Mackenzie Carse scored at Shielfield last November.

Key Stat

The last time Berwick lost 6-0 in league action was April 2019 at Annan Athletic in League Two.

The average age of Celtic’s starting XI for their win over Cowdenbeath was just under 18 years old, nine years younger than Berwick’s against Hearts.
