Match Day 1 | Hearts B vs BRFC

Match Preview / Team News

Match Preview
Competitive football returns this weekend as the ever-competitive Lowland League kicks off with Berwick traveling to Edinburgh to face the debuting Hearts B.
The young Jambos, along with B teams from Rangers and Celtic, were voted in in mid-June and will play their home games at Ferguson Park, also home to Whitehill Welfare.
Pre-Season Form
Berwick’s pre-season form was mixed with two wins, one draws and two defeats. The results may not have been ideal but the games were a chance for Stuart Malcolm to get players new and old up to speed for the new season.
Hearts have also had a mixed bag of results. Steven Naismith’s side have impressive wins over Whitehill Welfare and Vale of Leithen to their name while also suffering defeats in tough tests against the U23 sides of Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal.
Team News
Berwick will be without Jordan Sinclair for the trip to Hearts but have promising injury news. Lewis Baker looked sharp in his return to training after picking up an injury against Dunbar United while new signing James Farrell was also back training after a knock. Fellow new arrival Liam Buchanan has been recovering from a hamstring problem but is expected to play some part against Hearts.
Hearts could give a debut to recent signing Jaden Ferguson who was last at Lochee United. Wee Gers fans will also be able to welcome former loanee Aiden Denholm back to Shielfield Park. Denholm made 24 appearances last season for Berwick, scoring a rocket in the Scottish Cup defeat against Stirling Albion.
Key Stat
Last season, Berwick lost all four Lowland League games to B teams.
