Magnificent Seven as Barr commits to another year

Lewis Barr, Berwick’s longest serving player, has signed a deal which will keep him at Shielfield Park until the end of the 2024/25 season – his seventh year at the club.

The midfielder has been an ever-present in the side this season under both Stuart Malcolm and Thomas Scobbie, and incredibly Barr has featured in 45 of the last 47 competitive games that Berwick have played. Even more impressively, the former East Fife and Penicuik man has been named in the starting XI in 42 of those matches. Barr has already beaten his goal tally from last season, with four goals so far in 2023/24 – against Heart of Midlothian B, Linlithgow Rose, Camelon Juniors and Tranent – and will now have an extra season to add to both his appearances and goals tally in front of the Black and Gold faithful at Shielfield.

“I am delighted to be extending my contract with Berwick,” said the 29 year-old after signing the deal. “The club has been a great place for me to play football, and I have really enjoyed the last few weeks under the new manager, which made it an easy decision for me to take. I am confident that we can start to climb the table and look forward to a successful future.”

Berwick Rangers manager Thomas Scobbie added his praise for Barr, commenting, “I am very pleased to keep Lewis on board for next season. He is a player who gives everything whenever he pulls on the Berwick jersey, and is a great professional who demonstrates an excellent work ethic in every training session and game.”

Lewis Barr becomes the third player to commit to Thomas Scobbie’s squad for next season, alongside Drew Cummings and Grant Nelson. Berwick fans will next have the opportunity to watch all three in action at home on Saturday 2nd December against Caledonian Braves, with a 3pm kickoff at Shielfield Park.
