Little adds Thomson to the squad
The club are pleased to confirm the addition of 21 year-old central defender, Hamish Thomson, who joins from Livingston in a loan deal that will last until the end of the current season.
Thomson has spent time in the youth systems of both Alloa Athletic and Cowdenbeath. During his time at Central Park, he debuted for the first-team in League Cup derby action against Raith Rovers, and also spent time on loan with both Fauldhouse United and Burntisland Shipyard.
Having been picked up by The Lions in Summer 2018, the young centre back featured in IRN BRU Challenge Cup for their Under 20’s side last season, featuring in the heart of defence during a victory over Forfar Athletic and defeat to Sligo Rovers.
Manager Ian Little said: “Hamish is a strong, quick and aggressive centre half, and he arrives looking to gain regular playing time here at Berwick.
“We see him as youthful but with great potential to become a quality defender, so it’s a move that suits both parties. We expect he’ll add a real aggression to our defence and he should provide a decent threat at set-pieces, too.”
Thomson’s arrival does signal the end of fellow Livi youngster Greg Donald’s spell at the club. On his time at Shielfield, Little said: “Greg came into the club and helped us at a time we needed to add strength on the left flank.
“He enjoyed regular game time and we can only thank him for the commitment and attitude he showed during his time here.”
The club would like to pass on its thanks to Livingston FC, wish Greg the best of luck in his future career and express a warm welcome to Hamish, who immediately enters Ian Little’s squad for tomorrow’s trip to Gretna 2008.
Little still hopes to add further depth to the squad during January, and will offer an update on the future of Joao Balde, whose loan has now officially expired, in this evening’s match preview.
