Hogg: “First-team players are helping me to improve”

After confirming that he will remain at Shielfield Park until the Summer of 2017, the official website caught up with midfielder Barry Hogg to discuss his future with the club.

Hogg has featured prominently for the Development Team throughout this season, captaining the side on more than one occasion. Earlier in the season, Hogg enjoyed a brief stint in the first-team under former boss Colin Cameron.

More recently, Barry has also been picking up first-team football with Dunbar United, where he is currently on loan.

On his loan spell, midfielder Barry admitted: “It’s had its ups and downs so far. It’s always difficult to break into a squad during the season, but the lads there have welcomed me and I get on with them well, so that’s been a bonus.

“From the beginning of 2016 especially, I’ve been feeling more confident and I think that’s shown in my performances. One real positive is that I’m starting to net more from midfield which is a real bonus.”

And it seems as though the midfielder is determined to ensure that the rise in his form since the turn of the year is just the beginning of his improvement.

“As well as the coaches at Berwick, the first-teamers have been a real help too, they’re always there for advice and I can only benefit from their experience.

“Now it’s just a case of getting my head down and working away to get my chance. I get on well with John Coughlin, and I’m always looking to improve myself.

“I know this Summer is big for me if I want to push on to the first-team. I’ll be looking to put the work in during the off-season to make sure I’m in the pre-season plan and try to impress from there.”
