Harris commits future to Berwick Rangers

Midfielder Alex Harris has become the latest player to sign a new contract to remain at Shielfield Park beyond the end of his current deal, as the former Hibs, Dundee and York City man commits to the club until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The versatile midfielder, who can play out wide but has moved into a more central role in recent times, joined Berwick in the 2021/22 season and has been a regular starter across the last 3 years. Harris has made a total of 78 competitive appearances for the club, with 67 of those as part of the starting XI. He has 7 goals to his name in his time at Shielfield Park, with the most recent coming in last month’s home win against Edinburgh University. Although he is currently recovering from an injury suffered against Bo’ness United in December, Harris will be hoping to get onto the pitch again as soon as possible to add to his tally of appearances and goals, and only faces a few more weeks on the sidelines.

Harris was identified by ‘Gers manager Thomas Scobbie as an integral part of next season’s squad, and with interest being shown in the ex-Scotland under 19 international by a number of other teams, the club is delighted to have secured Alex’s signature. Scobbie said, ‘Alex’s quality is there for everyone to see, and he is a big part of the project we are trying to build. Alex loves it here, and we’re delighted that he has decided to commit to Berwick Rangers for the next 2 years.’

Harris himself was equally pleased to finalise his new contract, saying, ‘Although it has been a challenging season for us, the atmosphere within the club has remained positive and I am hoping we can kick on and get to where we want to be over the next couple of years. We have a great group of boys in the changing room, and we enjoy playing under the manager and the coaching staff. Hopefully we can do ourselves justice and get ourselves as high up the table as possible in the remainder of this season.’

Alex Harris will be joined at the club until the end of the 2025/26 season by Lewis Barr and Grant Nelson, who have both converted the one-year deals they signed in November into two-year contracts, as well as by defender Callum Mackay (whose new deal was announced earlier this week). The club would like to thank the group of BRFC supporters who sponsor Alex – Craig Forsyth, Martin Landels, Allan Rodger, Mark McLeman, James Inkpen and Jack Mathieson. Player sponsorship is a vital way in which fans and businesses can support the club, and so we greatly appreciate the backing of all of our sponsors.
