Graham Taylor commits for 2023/24 season

Graham Taylor, Berwick Rangers’ talented winger, has added his name to the growing squad list for Stuart Malcolm’s side for the 2023/24 season.

24 year old Taylor is a product of the Dundee United academy, and signed for Berwick at the start of the 2021/22 season after spells at Edinburgh City and Cowdenbeath. Taylor enjoyed a prolific first season at Shielfield Park, scoring 13 goals and providing the assist for a further 10 in the 40 games in which he featured in all competitions. This earned him a number of awards at the end of last season.

This year, Taylor’s value to the club has been underlined by the fact that he has featured in every single one of the club’s 32 games so far in the 2022/23 season – the only Berwick Rangers player to do so. Injuries within the squad have seen Taylor line up in a number of positions across the defence and midfield so far this year, although recently he has been able to enjoy a prolonged spell in his favourite position on the right wing. This has led to the return of Taylor’s trademark attacking prowess, as shown by him applying a superb finish to a great team move against East Stirlingshire last month, and providing a classy through ball for Jordan Sinclair’s winner against Open Goal Broomhill last Saturday.

Speaking after signing his contract, Taylor said, ‘I am delighted to sign for another year. I am really enjoying my time at Berwick, and looking forward to hopefully climbing further up the table and finishing this season on a high. I hope that next season we can really push on and challenge for the league title. The management team, players, board, and the club in general are all brilliant, which made it an easy decision to sign a contract extension. I really enjoy being part of the dressing room, so I couldn’t leave the boys!’

Wee Gers manager Stuart Malcolm added his thoughts on the signing, saying, ‘Graham’s been with us for the last 2 seasons, and we’re delighted that he has extended that into a 3rd season. We have always looked at our work at Berwick as a 3 year project, and Graham has been a huge part of that. He has hardly missed a game, he has been very consistent, and he has carried us forward.’

Malcolm added, ‘Graham works exceptionally hard and carries real attacking threat from wide areas. He has played a number of positions for us, which is a real testament to Graham; he always does his very best. As a club and coaching staff, we’re really pleased to have Graham back. He is pivotal to what we do, and understands the way we want to play.’

The manager also revealed, ‘Graham turned down offers to play at other clubs next year, and decided he wanted to make Berwick his home again for another season. I share Graham’s hopes that next year we can all be successful together.’

Graham Taylor becomes the tenth Berwick player signed for next season. Joining him already are goalkeeper Calum Antell, defenders David Ferguson and Michael Travis, midfielders Alex Harris, Grant Nelson, Jordan Sinclair and Lewis Barr, and Liam Buchanan and Lewis Allan in attack.

The team are next in action this Saturday, 25th February, at home to Rangers B in the Lowland League. Kickoff is at 3pm, with the JB Lounge open from 1.30pm to supporters of both sides.
