‘Gers player contracts update
The club would like to provide its supporters with a short update regarding the current state of affairs with the playing squad.
Around this time each year, most clubs at this level will reveal their retained lists, detailing which players depart the club upon expiry of their contracts.
In the existent climate, things are currently a little more complicated. Uncertainty continues concerning the restart of football, and accordingly many clubs are taking a more cautious approach to approaching and agreeing terms with players that are set to become available on the market following the expiry of their contract.
The club would like to reassure its supporters first and foremost that it has taken all reasonable measures to protect itself against any more unwelcome delays to the return of football. Whilst the club itself has done, and will continue to do business in the transfer market, deals made do not put the club at risk should football continue to remain absent.
Furthermore, the club would also like to inform supporters that its retained list will be delayed by another month, as Berwick Rangers looks to offer support to those leaving by enabling them to make use of the Government’s furlough scheme during June whilst those leaving remain without a new side.
As a club, Berwick Rangers believe firmly in doing what is right for its people – whether players, fans, sponsors or otherwise, and in this particular instance it is our belief that supporting our players right up until the moment they depart is the right thing to do.
Supporters can expect a further update towards the end of next month.
