Farrell arrives from the capital

Berwick Rangers are pleased to confirm the addition former Edinburgh City man, James Farrell, who put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the club today.

James meanwhile joins having been with the newly-rebranded ‘FC Edinburgh’ since the club since the age of 7, and having broke into the senior squad in November 2021. James went on to make 14 appearances last season, including a Scottish Cup appearance against Aberdeen.

The versatile youngster would go on to enjoy his first taste of senior success as his side went on to win the SPFL League Two play-offs. Capable of playing right back, centre back and defensive midfield, the 18 year-old will now be looking to force his way into the starting XI to gain more experience and continue his development at Shielfield Park.

Manager Stuart Malcolm said: “James is a great signing for Berwick Rangers. He arrives on a two year contract and has already played at a higher level with Edinburgh City.

“He’s got real quality and will add that in our defence. He’s an excellent defender, very accomplished on the ball and looks to use it well. He’s probably most natural at centre back but can play right back and defensive midfield too, and adds a real versatility to our defensive areas.

“James will improve our squad again from last season, and we’re absolutely ecstatic that we’ve got him tied up on a two-year deal. He’s got a bright future ahead of him, he loves to defend and the fans will really enjoy watching him play because he’s all-out to get blocks in and put his body on the line for the club.

“We’re delighted to welcome him and myself, Thomas (Scobbie) and Dean (Shanks) will help him get better in terms of what we’re looking for here at Berwick. We’re really excited to have him on board.”

The club would like to wish a warm welcome to James, who has already been kindly sponsored by members of the From The Grove To The Harrow Facebook Page. We look forward to welcoming him down to Berwick this Saturday when we’ll take on Consett AFC in a 2:00pm kick-off.
