Club teams up with Berwick Juniors to launch girls Open Trials

On International Women’s Day, Berwick Rangers Football Club have teamed up with Berwick Juniors and MGM Coaching to launch an Open Trials Day for girls in the local area.

The aim of the Open Trials, which will take place from 1pm-3pm on Sunday, May 24, is to scope out the interest for girls football teams across various Berwick Juniors age categories, which can hopefully result in the creation of a pathway that has never previously been available at the Football Club.

Any new teams that are formed will participate on a Saturday in an English league (Newcastle area) and parents of girls aged between 7 and 14 are asked to register their interest with Matty Moor – who runs the highly successful MGM Coaching for kids from 9am-12pm at Old Shielfield on Sunday mornings – by emailing: mattymoor11@hotmail.co.uk.

Speaking about the link-up and the potential for girls football teams in Berwick, Director Dave Buglass, who is also Head of Football Operations at leading women’s football team Glasgow City FC, said: “Girls and women’s football is growing at an amazing rate in the UK and across the world, with last year’s Women’s World Cup drawing in record TV viewing figures and match attendances for women’s matches.

“We need to look at how we can offer footballing provision for girls in our community and what better way to do that than by partnering with Berwick Juniors for this Open Trials Day. I hope we can get a great turn-out!”
