BRWFC FC Appoints Management Team and Makes First Signing

Following the recent announcement of the creation and launch of Berwick Rangers Women FC, the club can confirm the appointment of Willie Henderson, as BRWFC 1st team manager. Willie has been involved in women’s football in Northumberland for over 20 years.

On his appointment, the new boss said ‘I am very excited to be part of the new Berwick Rangers Womens Team. There has always been a steady flow of talented players coming out of  Berwick and the surrounding area who have gone on to play at a very good level and have contributed to the major improvement in the standard of Women’s football in the area.  I am confident that more local talent will take the opportunity to play the sport they love on their home turf, at Shielfield Park”

Joining Henderson in the dugout will be Assistant Manager, Rikki Renner and 1st Team Coach, Dawn Purvis.

Rikki, who completed his UEFA C Licence in 2015 and who has been involved in various local setups, both men’s and women’s, said on his appointment ” I am excited to be part of the management team for the first senior woman’s team in Berwick. It’s brilliant to see the woman’s game progress. I aim to ensure there is a pathway for all girls entering the game. Spurred on and supported by my oldest daughter, who is playing locally for Eyemouth United girls.

1st Team Coach Dawn Purvis started coaching when her daughter decided she wanted to start playing football with Lowick girls in 2006, where she first worked with the new boss (Henderson). Dawn was then part of Lowick Ladies and with that found herself lacing up the boots and gloves, to take a place between the sticks for the local side. Dawn is looking forward to helping build the club and said “I’m proud to be part of the future of the women’s game in my home town!”

To support the management team to develop and to enable the club to run and grow off the pitch the club has appointed Lucy Davidson as Head of football operations, Berwick Rangers Womens FC. Lucy has 18+ experience playing football, of which 10+ years were playing with Hutchison Vale Football Club. During this time Lucy was captain in their most successful season (winning the league cup and the Youth World Cup in Sweden). Following this Lucy played university football for 4 years. It was here Lucy developed her operational management skills as she took the role of  President of the university women’s team and Vice President of the football club (the 1 woman’s team and 3x men’s teams).

Lastly, the club are delighted to announce the first player signing of Berwick Rangers Womens FC as we welcome local Centre Midfielder Jenny Patterson to the club. Jenny (32), who is currently playing for Alnwick Town, will be joining the club upon the conclusion of the current season with Alnwick Town.

Upon agreeing to be the inaugural signing for BRFC Womens FC Jenny said: “Although I’m fully committed to Alnwick Town for the remainder of the season I’m ready to eventually, after 20 years of playing football, call home, home. I’m excited to be part of The Dream Team and pull on the Black & Gold Shirt to help create a pathway at the club for the younger generation including my own two girls”
