Berwick land Fellows signature
An important part of Thomas Scobbie’s squad building has fallen into place, with the capture of highly-rated left back Corrie Fellows.
The 19 year-old spent much of last season at fellow Park’s Motor Group Lowland League club Albion Rovers, loaned out from parent club Airdrieonians. Following his release from Airdrie, Fellows impressed Berwick chief scout James Cumming at the PFA Scotland Player Showcase in early June. At the time, Fellows stood out for his first touch and ability to get involved in attack. His pace, tackling and leadership in organising the back line were also picked out as strengths of Fellows’ work.
Since then, Fellows has featured for Berwick as a trialist starting left-back against both Morpeth in pre-season and against Linlithgow Rose in the league opener on Saturday. Against Linlithgow, Fellows had to show all of his defensive abilities to help his team to a clean sheet and a very hard-earned three points in a 1-0 win. After these performances, Berwick manager Scobbie made signing Fellows a priority, and the boss was thrilled to see the deal being finalised.
‘Corrie is a player in whom we have been interested for quite some time. He possesses bags of ability, and has the drive and enthusiasm to become a really top player. He is physical in defence but is also comfortable on the ball. We are delighted that Corrie has decided that Berwick is the right place for him.’
Pending the Scottish FA approving his registration, Fellows will be available to play tomorrow night in the SPFL Trust Trophy, as Berwick Rangers take on St Mirren B. Kick off is at 7.45pm at MKM Shielfield Park, with tickets being priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concession and Under 16s going free. Season tickets and memberships are not valid for this tie, with gate receipts split between the two clubs. We welcome Fork Truck Borders Instruction Ltd as match sponsors for the tie.
