Armstrong becomes latest addition for ‘Gers
Young left-back Fraser Armstrong has committed to Berwick Rangers for the upcoming season, as he joins Jack Brown in making the move from Kelty Hearts Under 20s to Shielfield Park.
Armstrong has been around the squad for a number of weeks, featuring as a trialist several times in preseason, and coming on for Jamie Stevenson in a backs-to-the-wall defensive performance against Linlithgow Rose in the opening game of the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League. The 20 year-old impressed Thomas Scobbie enough in those performances to earn a contract for the year ahead – a particularly impressive feat given Armstrong has found the early part of his footballing career hampered by a serious hamstring injury, from which he has now recovered, and leaves Armstrong raring to go in the black and gold of Berwick.
The ‘Gers boss was quick to single out Armstrong’s potential, saying, ‘Fraser is naturally left footed, is good on the ball, and we believe is a player with whom we can work and who can keep developing. I am really happy to have him on board.’
Pending the outcome of Armstrong’s registration with the Scottish FA, Fraser should be able to step straight into the squad for tomorrow night’s SPFL Trust Trophy clash with St Mirren B, with trialists unable to play in this competition.
