Anderson joins the Gers’

The club is delighted to confirm that experienced defender Steven Anderson has put pen to paper on a deal to bring him to Shielfield Park for the 22/23 season, in an agreement which includes a conditional one year extension.

Despite having offers from League clubs, the 36-year-old defender has committed his future to the Gers’.

Joining from Forfar, Anderson brings vast experience to an ambitious Dream Team. Anderson famously scored the first goal in St Johnson’s historic 2-0 Scottish Cup final success over Dundee United in May of 2014, also earning the Man of the Match award in that contest. Through this feat and the longevity of his service to the Saints, he attained legendary status with the McDiarmid Park support.

In recent years, Steven had short spells on loan at Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers before joining Forfar in July 2020.

Upon being reunited with Anderson, manager Stuart Malcolm said: “I am absolutely delighted to have Steven Anderson join us from Forfar. He comes in with a huge amount of experience, unbelievable leadership and football qualities, which will help bring on those around him.”

“He is a true leader and an exceptional signing for us. He demands high standards and will be able to bring much needed experience to our side. I am really looking forward to working with Steven again and introducing him to the rest of the squad”
