‘Gers Walking Football heads back indoors for the winter!
At the start of 2016, Berwick Rangers Community Foundation launched the first weekly Walking Football event for local Over 50’s. Originally held indoors, the regular event moved to Old Shielfield during the summer to take advantage of the warm weather.
With winter now looming, the club are pleased to confirm that arrangements have been made to take the action back indoors, with the hour-long sessions now being hosted at Longridge Towers School from 6:30pm every Wednesday.
Starting this week, people of all ages are welcome to come along and play in the hall, with all players who attend the first night even able to enjoy the session completely free of charge! The Foundation managed to attract over 10 players a week on average through the Summer and would love to continue to see numbers build through the winter, so why not come along?
Back in January, organiser Matty Moor revealed: “It’s great fun. The ‘walking’ element allows for the creation of a level playing field for all involved. The beauty of that is that it helps to ensure a competitive environment for all players.
“But there’s no doubt it’s very testing, too. You must constantly think about your movement to try stay one step ahead of the game. There’s an arguement that by slowing things down, it introduces a more tactical battle.
“And of course, because of your constant movent, it makes for a great cardiovascular workout, too!”
