Mackay signs up for 2 more years
Talented young defender Callum Mackay has put pen to paper on a contract extension which sees him stay at Shielfield Park for the 2025/26 season, bringing the number of retained players for next year’s squad to 6.
Mackay, 20, has featured regularly for the Wee ‘Gers since joining from The Spartans in the summer. He has started 18 games and come off the bench a further 3 times, and Mackay’s 21 total appearances have only been bettered by 7 other Berwick players this season.
Speaking after agreeing to stay another season, Callum said, ‘I am delighted to be signing an extended contract and commit my future to Berwick Rangers. I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of my first full season in the Lowland League and the learning experience has been invaluable. It’s been made easier by the warm welcome from everyone at the club and the support of a brilliant group of boys in the changing room. I now want to kick on and repay the managers faith every time I step onto the pitch.’
Berwick manager Thomas Scobbie was also delighted to complete the deal, adding, ‘Cal has done really well in stepping up from under 20s level, and shown improvements in his game. I am really looking forward to working with him over the next couple of years and progressing his game further.’
Mackay joins Lewis Barr, Grant Nelson, Thomas Kay, Kane O’Connor and Drew Cummings in committing to Berwick Rangers for next season, and the management team of Thomas Scobbie and Dean Shanks are working hard behind the scenes to add to that number. In the meantime, Callum Mackay and the rest of his teammates are preparing for an away trip to Tranent on Saturday, before the Wee ‘Gers host Civil Service Strollers on 13th January.
