Dougie Hill signs for the Dream Team
Experienced centre back Dougie Hill has become the first new signing of Thomas Scobbie’s managerial career, joining the Wee ‘Gers on a short term deal.
The 38 year-old has spent most of his career at clubs in the second and third tiers of the SPFL, perhaps most notably in a six-year stint at Raith Rovers which was headlined by a man of the match performance against Rangers in the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2014. However, Hill is also no stranger to success in the Lowland League, having been part of the Kelty Hearts team which won the league title and pyramid playoff in 2021. Most recently, Hill has been at Cowdenbeath, but now swaps Central Park for Shielfield Park for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Speaking about the capture of the defender, Berwick manager Thomas Scobbie felt that Hill would bring a range of positive attributes both on and off the pitch. Scobbie said, ‘I have known Dougie for many years, and know what qualities he will bring to the group as a whole. He has a tremendous amount of experience, reads the game well and will help the younger ones around him. This is a real coup for the club, as I know there were quite a few clubs interested in Dougie.’
Dougie Hill goes straight into the Berwick squad ahead of a busy December fixture list, with six fixtures coming up next month. Meanwhile, the management team is continuing to work very hard to further strengthen the squad in key positions before the next game, against Caledonian Braves at Shielfield Park on Saturday 2nd December.
