Thomas Kay to stay until 2025

Berwick Rangers continue to plan ahead for next season, with goalkeeper Thomas Kay becoming the latest player to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Kay joined the Wee ‘Gers at the start of the 2022/23 season from Kerse United, and spent part of last season on loan at Fauldhouse United to get more playing opportunities. The 18 year-old made his debut for Berwick in the Lowland League Cup against Cowdenbeath in April, and has featured 3 times this season – twice in the South of Scotland Cup and once in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.

Speaking about signing Kay for next season, Berwick manager Thomas Scobbie said, ‘I am very happy that Thomas has opted to extend his stay with the club. He is a young goalkeeper who is learning and getting better in every training session. He has worked well with Calum Antell and Alex Stewart (the club’s goalkeeping coach), and the performances he has made this year show the improvements he has made. Thomas is a great lad, who works hard and wants to improve, so we’re delighted that he will be here for another season.’

Kay said he was ‘delighted to have signed for another year, at a great club with great people involved. Since I have joined I have really enjoyed my time at the club and feel like I have developed lots as a player. I am excited to see what the future holds.’

Thomas Kay and the rest of the Berwick squad are next in action at home on Saturday 2nd December, in a Park’s Motor Group Lowland League match against Caledonian Braves. However, this weekend the club will be open for our race night fundraiser, which promises to be a fantastic evening. This takes place tomorrow – Saturday 25 November – in the JB Lounge, which is open from 6.30pm.
