Sean Stewart joins Dunbar United
Attacking player Sean Stewart has left Berwick Rangers today, to join Dunbar United for an undisclosed fee.
Stewart, 25, joined Berwick from Penicuik Athletic for the start of the 2021/2 season and enjoyed an excellent campaign last year, with 11 goals and 9 assists from 23 appearances. His versatility saw Stewart deployed out wide and through the middle, and wherever he played he was a menace to defences across the Lowland League.
This season, Sean started in 7 games for Berwick, and remained a tricky customer for opposition defenders. Indeed, Stewart’s pace and guile won the penalty which rounded off Saturday’s 4-1 win against East Stirlingshire, in what turned out to be his final game for the club. In total, Stewart made 48 appearances and scored 11 goals for Berwick.
Manager Stuart Malcolm said, ‘We are a little disappointed to be losing Sean, but he wants a better opportunity to play every week so requested a transfer. He was granted that, although I felt that if he had stayed at Berwick longer then he would have found more playing opportunities. We are going to be working hard over the next few days to bring somebody in to replace him.’
In joining Dunbar United, Sean joins up with former Berwick Rangers player and assistant manager Kevin Haynes, as the Seasiders bid to reclaim a place in the East of Scotland Premier Division at the first attempt. The club would like to wish Sean the very best at his new club.
