Dougie Horne confirms retirement

The club would like to inform its supporters that goalkeeper Dougie Horne has decided to call it a day on his playing career, hanging up his boots prior to the start of the new campaign.

Dougie, who was sponsored by St Andrews Berwick Rangers Supporters, was a mainstay for the ‘Gers during our 20/21 campaign, in what was his only season with the club.

The imposing goalkeeper had agreed terms on one-year extension towards the back end of last season, but due to a mixture of work commitments and a desire to spend more time with his young family, has decided to call it a day.

On his departure, Dougie shared: “I have to admit, this wasn’t a decision I enjoyed making but it’s what’s best for me and my family.

“I’d like to thank the club for everything, and I really enjoyed being part of what is a great club. I also want to wish the squad all the very best.”

All at Berwick Rangers Football Club would like to thank Dougie for his time with the club, and wish him and his family all the best for their future.

Stuart Malcolm will now be on the look out for a replacement – but also has talented young stopper Andy McNeil at his disposal. Andy debuted for the ‘Gers in cup action last season and is a highly-rated young goalkeeper.

McNeil ended the season out on loan with League One side Airdrieonians, providing cover for the Diamonds following the premature stop that was put to the Lowland League campaign.

And new ‘Gers boss Malcolm has confirmed that he has already identified a number of targets for the club elsewhere on the park, as he looks to immediately work to strengthen the side. More news on this will hopefully follow soon!
