Little adds firepower
The club is delighted to announce the addition of Calum Smith, who arrives on an 18-month deal from Dundonald Bluebell.
An experienced striker, Smith spent time in the SPFL ranks with Brechin City, Montrose and Forfar Athletic, and brings plenty of experience of non-league football too, having enjoyed spells at Linlithgow Rose, Kelty Hearts, Bo’ness United and The Bluebell.
It’s expected that 31-year old Smith will provide immediate competition to a ‘Gers frontline that had perhaps been left lacking in depth following the departure of Daryl Healy to East Kilbride.
A forward with an eye for goal, it is hoped Smith will be able to add a threat to the Black and Gold army’s attack.
Manager Ian Little has had his eye on the frontman for some time, and moved to add the hitman during January having already agreed a pre-contract agreement that’d bring Smith to Shielfield Park for season 2020/21.
Speaking after securing the forward, assistant manager Kevin Haynes said:
“Calum is an experienced striker who leads the line well and is a natural goalscorer.
“He’s someone the gaffer has been working hard behind the scenes to secure for next season, having missed out on his signature in the Summer.
“We are delighted that the club have made this happen now as we feel Calum’s experience will help youngster both this season and through into next.
“The list of clubs on his CV show he’ll be a good addition, and we’re looking forward to working with him”
Moving in the opposite direction is Cieran Chalmers, who joins The Bluebell in a loan deal until the end of the current campaign.
The club would like to wish Cieran and Dundonald all the best for the remainder of the season, and also extend a warm welcome to Calum who will be available for tomorrow’s tie with East Kilbride.
