Denton Looking Forward To First Team Challenge

After signing a permanent deal with the ‘Gers earlier in the week, Charlie Denton has spoken of his ambition to break into Colin Cameron’s first team squad as soon as he possibly can.

Denton had featured as a trialist for Berwick’s Under 20 side throughout the latter half of last season, and explains

that the experience helped him to develop no end:

“I enjoyed my time with the Development Team last season – it was a big part of the reason I wanted to join.

“I played a variety of positions and that’s something I enjoyed, it really helped me to develop my game in more areas.

“I do see myself as being fairly versatile. I can play anywhere across the midfield and feel comfortable, I’ve played wide and centrally.

On his personal ambitions in a Black and Gold strip, Charlie continued:

“The boss has already given me the opportunity to get some first team experience during pre-season. It’s been a great feeling getting game time against quality opposition.

“I see this move as a very good opportunity for me to break through into senior football. I know I’ll have to work hard to get my chance, but I’m willing to put the effort in for the Development Team to get my chance in the first team – whether it’s this season or next.

“I know that the best way to get my chance in the first team is to continue to work hard and continue to improve in the Under 20’s. My aim for the season is to hopefully get a chance with the first team, but I understand it’ll be hard work.

“I’m sure whatever happens it’ll be a great experience for me. I hope for a good season ahead both personally, and for the club.”
