Youngster Helm to represent the ‘Gers
Can footballers outpace the rugby boys over 300 metres? Well they did at last year’s City of Edinburgh Running Festival! Hearts player Alistair Roy won, leading from the start, closely followed by Ben Stirling of Hibs.
What will it be this year? Jed-Forest RFC, Boroughmuir RFC and Lasswade RFC will compete against Rangers, Hearts, Hibernian, Berwick Rangers and Edinburgh City for a first prize of £250.
The race, in memory of former Rangers and Hearts player Sandy Jardine who also competed in open athletics, will be held as part of the City of Edinburgh Running Festival held at Meggetland on Friday 3rd July at around 9.00 pm.
There will be many fantastic races taking place from 6.15 pm finishing with the highly sought after 110m OrthoLink Sprint with a first prize of £3000.
Come and support your team, place a bet with the trackside bookie and enjoy food and refreshment at the Boroughmuir RFC bar. Entrance is £5 adults and £2 for children at the gate.
Berwick Rangers will be represented by young striker Calum Helm, who showed a fair turn of pace and an eye for goal in last season’s SPFL Development League, and is aiming for a place in the First Team squad this year.
