Thomas Scobbie appointed Berwick Rangers FC Manager
Berwick Rangers are very pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Scobbie as the new manager of Berwick Rangers FC.
Thomas has served on the coaching staff at the club for the past 18 months, after initially joining as a player the season before. After one season in a player/coach role, Thomas officially hung up his boots in April, and now steps into the manager’s seat for the first time in his career. We are thrilled that he has opted to begin his managerial journey with us at Shielfield Park.
Thomas will bring a wealth of experience as a player at the highest level, while already being familiar with the players and culture of Berwick Rangers. In his playing career, Thomas played over 150 times for Falkirk, including starting in the 2009 Scottish Cup final against Rangers, and also played over 100 times for St Johnstone. He was also capped 12 times at Under-21 level for Scotland, and knows what it takes to succeed in the Lowland League, having won promotion while at Kelty Hearts.
“I am delighted to have been appointed as the new manager of Berwick Rangers Football Club by the Board of Directors. This evening, I spoke to the players for the first time as manager, and now cannot wait for our first match on Friday night,” said Scobbie in response to his appointment.
In reflecting on his style and philosophy, Scobbie added, “I firmly believe that a football club works best when we are all strong and united, and I have already spoken to the chairman about my ambition to build a relationship within the club from top to bottom. A key part of that will be engaging with supporters, and so I am looking forward to working with all of you to push the club forward. I know there will be challenges to overcome both on and off the pitch, but with the support of the chairman, board and fans, I know that I can lead us through this process and produce a competitive team playing entertaining football, and ultimately making supporters proud.”
Berwick’s new manager dedicated his final comments to his predecessor Stuart Malcolm, saying, “I would like to thank Stuart for bringing me into the club – firstly as a player and then as a coach. It was Stuart who gave me the opportunity to learn by working alongside himself and Dean within the coaching group at Berwick, and I want to thank him for everything he has done for me personally. I wish him every success going forward.”
The club is also thrilled to confirm that Dean Shanks will stay as our Assistant Manager, continuing to play a vital role in all facets of the first team squad. We have always felt very fortunate to have somebody with as much managerial experience and success as Dean at Berwick as our assistant, and he remains a real asset to the club. The rapport he has built with the players is clear to see, and we are confident that we have the strongest possible coaching team in place to push the team to further success.
Thomas Scobbie will be in the dugout for the first time as manager on Friday night as Berwick travel to Camelon Juniors in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup First Round, with a 7.45pm kick off. His home debut will come the week after, as Tranent Juniors travel to Shielfield Park on Saturday 4 November.
