Pre-season Friendly – Berwick Rangers v Hibernian FC
Football returns to Shielfield Park tomorrow night for the first of our 2018/19 pre-season friendlies as we welcome Scottish Premier League side, Hibs, to Berwick for a 7.45pm kick-off.
The game will be the perfect tonic for any supporters who are sick of World Cup action and ready to get back to the real stuff.
Although some of the management team and first-team players are still away on their summer holidays, this game is expected to showcase some of the summer arrivals. Therefore, it is a must for any supporters wanting to see the new men in action.
Supporters will be hoping for a first glimpse of Daryl Healy, Jed Davie, Sean Murphy, Grant Rose (since signing a professional contract) or Alasdair Adams. Recently signed returning players, such as Gary Phillips and Aaron Murrell, will be looking to build up sharpness before the next friendly against Tommy Wright’s St Johnstone FC next week.
There are no advance tickets for this match and it is pay on the gate. Adults will be £10, with concessions at £5. Hibs fans making the journey down from Edinburgh can enter via the Gate A turnstiles, Berwick fans will enter by Gate B. Turnstiles open 6.45pm.
Please note: due to a funfair, car parking behind the main stand at Shielfield will be restricted so early arrival is recommended.
The Premiership side from Easter Road, will be visiting Shielfield for the fourth consecutive season and will be using the game as a warm up ahead of their Europa League Qualifiers, which begin next week. Hibs enjoyed a successful first season back in the big time last campaign, finishing 4th in the league and making the Scottish cup semi-final.
This game could come too soon for Hungarian international goalkeeper, Adam Bogdan, who just signed on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool earlier this week. However, that shows the kind of calibre of player that will be available for Neil Lennon’s outfit.
The hard-work for Robbie and the boys starts here as we prepare for the early cup clashes and to have a successful season. It has been a summer of hard-work for the management team to get a competitive squad in place and we are confident this game will mark the beginning of a young and hungry Berwick Rangers side.
The club shop will be open for any supporters looking to acquire the new kit for the coming season.
We look forward to welcoming you all back to Shielfield. Here’s to the 2018/19 season and a cracking one for the Black & Gold army. Come on the ‘Gers!
