New signing shines but Berwick exit Irn Bru Cup

New loan signing Marcus Godinho put in a sterling performance earning him the Social Media man of the match award yesterday but Berwick could not contain the Championship high flyers who ran out 5-0 winners. Berwick battled well in the first half which ended goalless but a first goal in the 53rd minute for the Doonhamers opened up the game and they scored again in the 58th, 60th and 63rd minute with a brace for former English Premier league star Stephen Dobbie leaving no way back for the Borderers.

New loan signing Marcus Godinho earned the fan’s Social Media man of the match award.

Myles Allan, who was in charge of team affairs while Robbie Horn and his new coaching team took the opportunity to watch the game from the stands, switched things in the 69th minute bringing on Steven Notman and Daniel Watt as replacements for Greg Rutherford and Pat Scullion and Berwick held out against more pressure from the visitors until an 87th minute goal made it five in total. Queen of the South will play in the third round of the cup over the weekend of October 7th and 8th.

There were no real surprises elsewhere in the cup with the remaining Colts teams exiting against league opponents.

The Club Man of the Match award was voted for by Darren Lavery and Gary Phillips who selected to Kevin Mckinlay (all pictured below) to receive the bottle donated by director Dougie Watkin.

Berwick return to league action next Saturday September 9th at Ainslie Park against Edinburgh City where we would like to remind fans travelling that season ticket holders presenting their card will pay £6 entry rather than the usual £12.
