Murphy moves to Shielfield
Berwick Rangers are delighted to confirm the second new arrival of the summer as midfielder Sean Murphy signs a pre-contract with the club.
Murphy has joined goalkeeper Ally Adams in making the move to Shielfield from Musselburgh Athletic for the 2018/19 campaign. Musselburgh have just completed a record-breaking season, winning the McBookie.com East Premier League with 79 points: The most ever recorded in a league season.
Throughout 2017/18, Murphy racked up 33 appearances, netting three times and contributing further with six assists. Murphy, who has been with Musselburgh for the last two seasons, has previously been on the books at Livingston and Leith Athletic.
The midfielder is looking forward to working with manager Robbie Horn and playing in the SPFL next season: “I am delighted to be joining Berwick Rangers and looking forward to making the step up to senior football. After speaking to a couple of my former Musselburgh teammates who have made the move, I knew that it was the right club for me and I am looking forward to the challenge. I have known Robbie for a few years and after having spoken with him I am confident he can help me to improve as a player. I hope I can play a part in the team by working hard on and off the pitch and hope to help the club climb up the table.”
Murphy is another player from the Junior leagues that Manager Robbie Horn has been chasing for a number of years: “Sean Murphy is a player that I’ve watched and admired over the last few seasons. When I was assistant before I tried to sign him for our Dev squad when he was released by Livingston. I then also tried to sign him for Bonnyrigg, so I’m glad to finally get him. He’s an all-round midfield player. He goes box to box, competes well, technically very good, can pick a pass and can score goals. He’s another that’s keen for a crack at Senior football and I’m sure he will do well.”
The midfielder will join up with the squad for pre-season training, which begins in a few weeks time.
