McNamara becomes third signing of the week!

Former Edinburgh City attacking midfielder Cai McNamara has signed for Berwick Rangers for the coming season, becoming the third addition to the squad since Thursday.

Coming hot on the heels of the announcement of Jack Brown and Matthew Collins, McNamara is a nineteen year-old capable of playing in attacking midfielder, on the wing, or up front. He made 23 appearances in SPFL League 1 last season for the Citizens, going up against the likes of Falkirk, Hamilton Academical, and Queen of the South.

McNamara featured for the Wee ‘Gers from the bench as a trialist in the pre-season friendly against Dunbar United, and is the latest in a string of trialists to make their move permanent – in Cai’s case by signing a two-year deal that commits the youngster to MKM Shielfield Park until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Speaking about the addition of McNamara to his squad, Berwick manager Thomas Scobbie said, ‘I am really plleased to have Cai join the club. He has been with the squad for a couple of weeks now, and has really shown qualities that Berwick fans will love. He’s a dynamic player who can play a number of positions with great energy, and wants to get the ball down and play forward whenever possible. It is great to have added another young attacking player to the team, and we are excited to see Cai develop in the black and gold.’

Berwick have two preseason games remaining before the Park’s Motor Group Lowland League season starts on Saturday 27th July. This weekend, the Wee ‘Gers host Haddington Athletic, before rounding of their friendlies against fellow Northumberland side Morpeth Town. Both matches are 3pm kick offs at MKM Shielfield Park.
