McKenna Wins Social Media Man of the Match

Michael McKenna’s impressive debut performance against St Mirren in Petrofac Training Cup action at the weekend has clearly caught the eye of ‘Gers fans, with the pacey midfielder winning the first Social Media Man of the Match award of the 2015/2016 campaign with 37.5% of the voting.

McKenna looked sharp after being deployed in a ‘number ten’ role on Saturday in behind goalscorer Blair Henderson, showing his versatility with his more natural position arguably out on the left flank.

However it’d be Dwayne Coultress who operated down the left, and all three of the aforementioned played a part in a fantastic counter-attacking goal to open the scoring early on, McKenna’s clever thinking and delicate touches opening up the game to bring in Coultress out on the left, who found Henderson in the box, the striker showing great composure to take his man on and smash in off the post.

There were five joint runners-up in this week’s voting, with Coultress, Henderson, Finn Graham, Robert Wilson and Kevin Walker all picking up 12.5% of the voting each.

Coultress’ showed neat touches out on the Berwick left and impressed with direct running, whilst Henderson came close to doubling his goal tally with a second half header which crashed off the bar.

Graham meanwhile was unlucky not to win a penalty and showed a wide range of pasing, whilst Wilson looked solid at the back throughout, despite giving a penalty away. Kevin Walker meanwhile could do nothing to stop any of the three goals and made a couple of fantastic stops to prevent St Mirren going on to earn a win that wouldn’t have fairly reflected the match.

Well done to all for their efforts, and hopefully the team will manage to give Alloa Athletic an even bigger shock this Saturday as we face off against the Ladbrokes Championship side in League Cup action.
