McKenna: “We can win promotion”
A week has passed since the announcement Colin Cameron’s first two summer recruits, with fans greeting the arrival of now former Livingston men Michael McKenna and Kevin Walker in largely a positive manner.
Berwick’s left flank has proved a problem area in recent seasons but McKenna, who was briefly at Musselburgh before moving to Livingston, says the switch is perfect for him at this point in his career – and believes he is the man to solve the issue.
“I’m delighted to have joined Berwick Rangers, I must admit. Both on a personal and footballing level, it’s the right move for me.
“Moving to part-time football makes sense for me. It’s a big help to me financially, and I also believe Berwick can provide a healthy platform for me to showcase my talents.
“My time in full-time football has taught me a lot – I don’t regret it. But this is an opportunity to establish myself in a senior team as a regular starter. I hope that I can get my confidence up by doing that, and follow it up by notching a few goals.”
Expanding on his time with Livingston, McKenna noted: “The step up from Musselburgh was huge – no doubt. But I had a great pre-season and got out what I put in. Even I was a bit surprised to see my name in the starting line-up in the first game of the season, but for me it showed I was good enough.
“I feel like built on that during my time with Livi. I adapted well early on and I was included in the teams for weeks after. I was always in or around the side.”

The left-footer arrives alongside his teammate Walker, but admits: “I honestly didn’t realise Berwick were talking to Kevin. I think it’ll be a great move for him. He’s got a lot of potential.
“After my experience with Livingston I’m confident I’ll adapt to the team fairly well, but having a guy like Kevin around is a big plus. I also know Darren (Lavery) from my youth days, so if he signs on again I’ll already know a couple of familiar faces in the changers.”
Michael is clearly eager to get up and running again, admitting: “I’m really looking forward to getting started. Berwick have been knocking on the door of promotion for years, and I’m confident that this year we can win promotion.
“On a personal level, I just want to play at the highest level possible. Taking a ‘step back’ feels like the right thing to do for my future. Getting promoted with Berwick will hopefully be the first of many steps in the right direction – for both myself and the club.”
