Match Preview : Berwick Rangers v Peterhead – Ladbrokes League Two

Berwick Rangers welcome Jim McInally’s high-flying Peterhead side to Shielfield Park this weekend for a Ladbrokes League Two fixture.

The game will kick off at 3pm, subject to a precautionary pitch inspection at 8:30am, as Robbie and the boys will be looking to bounce back from the heavy defeat away at Montrose last time out.

The visitors, nicknamed “The Blue Toon”, will be well rested having had last weekend off due to the weather causing a postponement of their scheduled fixture v Clyde.

The ‘Gers will take heart from their last league encounter at Shielfield where they managed to beat high-flying Stirling and keep a clean sheet. They will also be looking for a repeat of the reverse fixture earlier this season when Berwick travelled to Balmoor and emerged with a 0-2 victory.

Long-serving Jim McInally is looking to take Peterhead back into League One at the first attempt, with the club having been relegated via the playoffs at the end of last season.

Berwick News

Robbie Horn will be hoping to have influential midfielder Steven Notman available for selection, as the recent testimonial man missed the defeat last Saturday with the flu. Jack Cook and Kevin Waugh are both still out.

Daniel Watt completed a move to Hill of Beath Hawthorns last week for a nominal fee and the club wish him all the best.

Horn has commented this week that ”it’ll be a difficult game against an in-form Peterhead, who have one of the strongest squads in the league. The players have to show the same belief and togetherness that they did when we got a great result up at Balmoor. The first half last week was not acceptable and we will be looking for a reaction.”

Peterhead News

Jim McInally has injury concerns over three regular starters but will be hoping that the week off has allowed them to recover accordingly. Willie Gibson is expected to have recovered from a dead leg but Aidan Mcllduff and Jack Leitch are more doubtful with knee & groin problems respectively.

Rory McAllister will be looking to move towards the top of the league scoring charts, having netted 10 times already in 2017/18. Allan Smith is the clubs next highest scorer this season with 4 strikes.
