Match Preview : Berwick Rangers v Edinburgh City – Ladbrokes League Two

The ‘Gers welcome Edinburgh City to Shielfield Park tomorrow for a League Two game which kicks off at 3pm.

This will be the third meeting of the sides already this season with an early Betfred Cup clash prior to the league encounter in Edinburgh on 9th September. Boss Robbie Horn will be looking for better fortune this time with the club having lost a thrilling penalty shoot out after a 2-2 draw in the cup and then conceding the only goal of the league game. Incidentally that 1-0 league defeat marked the opening game of Horn’s tenure as Berwick Rangers manager.

The team have progressed considerably since that early Ashley Grimes goal condemned Berwick to one of only two victories for the Edinburgh side in League Two in 2017/18.

Games involving both sides have been tight affairs recently with minimal goals, a stark contrast to the 16 goals that were netted in the four league encounters last season. Berwick fans attending the game will have fond memories of the last match between the sides at Shielfield, where a 3-2 home victory ensured Berwick’s survival for this current League Two campaign.

Berwick News

The ‘Gers will be without Jack Cook, Kevin McKinlay and goalkeeper Sean Brennan who are all out injured.

Robby McCrorie has been allowed release from his international call up and is available for selection tomorrow.

Berwick will be looking for three points to move further away from the visitors and the sides currently down the foot of the table.

Edinburgh City News

Manager James McDonaugh took over at the Black and White’s just over a month ago, with former Scotland International Craig Beattie acting as his assistant. Both will be hoping for a change in results as Edinburgh have lost their last 6 games and failed to score in 5 of those matches.

One bright spark for the recently assembled management team is that recent emergency loan signing from Falkirk, striker Scott Shepherd, netted on his home debut last weekend. The clubs first goal in some time.

McDonaugh will be looking for more goals from him to start collecting some points. Edinburgh play Cowdenbeath on 25th November which is starting to look like a key fixture at the bottom of the table.
