Match Preview : Berwick Rangers v Edinburgh City – Ladbrokes League Two

The ‘Gers return to Shielfield tomorrow to take on Edinburgh City in a clash of the teams 9th and 8th respectively.

James McDonaugh brings the “Black & Whites” down from the capital having recently overtaken Berwick in the table.  This match represents the 5th encounter between the sides this season as both were grouped together in the Betfred Cup at the start of the season, with the tie ending 2-2 before a penalty shoot-out.

Edinburgh, who parted company with Gary Jardine in October 2017, have won both league clashes when at home this season but the previous match at Shielfield concluded with a 1-1 draw.

The game has taken on added significance in the last couple of weeks with an upturn in the form of bottom side Cowdenbeath. Both sides will be looking to place some distance between them and the bottom on Saturday.

Berwick News

Robbie Horn has commented that the next three games are crucial for his side as they look to return to form. Horn and the Berwick supporters feel the side have been a bit short of luck and also on the end of a few questionable decisions in recent weeks. The recent spate of postponements hasn’t helped either.

Horn has stated that he has a pretty much fit squad to choose from and will be using that competition for places to get the team to perform from now until the end of the season.

Edinburgh News

Saturday will mark the return to Shielfield of former Berwick captain, Pat Scullion. The centre half made his Edinburgh City debut in an earlier league encounter this season between the sides.

Edinburgh also boast former Scotland international, Craig Beattie, in their ranks, alongside former Manchester City youth players Marc Laird and Ashley Grimes. Grimes has netted against Berwick already this season.

Liam Henderson has recently left the club to pursue his football career in Australia. Jesus Garcia Tena is expected in the squad, having extended his stay until the end of the season.

Edinburgh have only lost once in the last 5 league games.
