Match Preview: Arbroath v Berwick Rangers – SPFL Ladbrokes League Two
Berwick Rangers kick off their SPFL League Two season with a trip to Gayfield Park, taking on Dick Campbell’s Arbroath in the opener.
Manager John Coughlin has demanded a response from his players following an abysmal 3-0 loss to Spartans in midweek.
Berwick Rangers Team News:
Berwick will once again be without Sean Mackie, though the left-footed youngster will this time miss out as a result of an injury sustained in a friendly whilst playing for Hibernian Under 20’s in midweek.
His Hibernian teammate Ben Stirling will return to the fold however, and is likely to make his league debut after Coughlin admitted he’d be looking to change things from Tuesday evening’s disappointment.
Michael McKenna is suspended for the tie, the midfielder’s ill-discipline last season leading to a ban which has been carried over into the new campaign.
Arbroath Team News:
Much like the ‘Gers, Arbroath had a difficult time in Betfred Cup action, culminating in a 7-0 defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle last weekend.
However, Campbell’s men restored some pride by putting away Caley’s Under 20’s side in IRN BRU Cup action on Tuesday evening courtesy of a 3-0 victory.
Dick Campbell has recruited heavily this Summer, with former Berwick loanee Michael Dunlop joining David Gold in the Smokies’ ex-Berwick alumni.
With the likes of Ryan McCord, Omar Kader and Colin Hamilton all joining with experience of playing at a higher level, it looks set to be a tough start for the Black and Gold army.
