Mackay is back for 2025/6!
Defender Callum Mackay will make his long-awaited return in Berwick Rangers colours in the 2025/6 season, as he signs a one year extension following an entire season out with a serious injury layoff.
The 21 year old joined the ‘Gers from The Spartans Under 20s in the summer of 2023, and had a breakthrough year in his first season in senior football. Cal made 35 appearances, 31 of them starts. However, he suffered a cruel blow in the final game against Albion Rovers, going off with the injury which would end up costing Callum the entirety of the 2024/5 campaign.
Nonetheless, Callum’s dedication to getting himself back fit has been clear to see, as he became more and more involved in training and pre-match warm ups. With a new contract signed to keep him at Shielfield Park until the end of the 2025/26 season, Callum can now look forward to getting back on the pitch early in the new season.
‘Gers manager Kevin Haynes praised his defender, saying, ‘Callum has had a hellish of a year, but as a club we have supported him and will continue to do that by offering him a new deal which I’m over the moon he has accepted. This new contract will allow him to get back to full fitness this summer and be ready to contribute once again when the season starts.’
Haynes added, ‘I’ve witnessed his desire and dedication during his rehab work and with the same attitude Cal will prove to be a great signing again.’
