Jonny Devers Signs

Free-scoring attacking midfielder Jonny Devers will join Berwick Rangers next season, moving to the ‘Gers from East of Scotland Division One side Whitehill Welfare.

23-year-old Devers, who played on both the right wing and in a more central role for Whitehill, scored 19 times in 38 appearances for the Ferguson Park club. He impressed our scouting team greatly, being praised for his work rate, composure under pressure and pressing when out of possession. When on the ball he looks to take defenders on, and his technical ability is likely to stand him in good stead as he moves up to the Lowland League. He can use both feet, has excellent vision, and his first touch and control are excellent.

Berwick manager Thomas Scobbie said he was really pleased to get Devers on board, and referenced the positive scouting reports as a key factor in the decision to sign the midfielder. ‘He is a player with really good ability’, said Thomas, adding, ‘He is tricky and direct and can score a wide range of goals.’

‘After speaking with Jonny, it was clear that he has a real desire to challenge himself by playing at the highest level possible. We are delighted to have agreed a two year deal with him.’

Jonny Devers promises to be an exciting addition to the squad for next season, and the wait to see the team back in action at Shielfield Park is getting ever shorter. Keep an eye out on the club website and social media on Saturday 1 June for the announcement of our pre-season schedule, which will be featuring opposition from both sides of the border!
