Interview & Podcast: Sam Daniel

In the latest interview with members of the Berwick Rangers squad who have signed up for the 2020/21 season, Let It BRFC podcast host Adam Hunter caught up with Sam Daniel to hear his thoughts since returning to Scottish football with the Dream Team.

Daniel featured on just 3 occasions for the ‘Gers after signing in February before the season was halted, but has impressed the management team with his natural ability and athleticism, and the former Hearts youngster is now looking to settle in and make a position his own in the new campaign.

“I just want to come in and prove myself and do well for the club,” Daniel explained.

“I’m left-footed, originally I was a midfielder and played in the centre but as time goes on I’d been moved into full back through injuries or whatever.

“I’d say I’m quite versatile – I personally enjoy the middle of the park because you get to see more of the ball, but I’m quite comfortable at left back too so I’m happy to play wherever and give my best.”

“My first game for the club was East Stirlingshire. It was my first match in about 7-8 months after a couple of weeks training, and I was straight into it, so it was kinda about getting used to the pace of things.”

Despite being thrown in at the deep end, Daniel is under no illusion that he still has plenty to prove when the new season starts, as he continues:

“I’ve still got to prove myself. A lot of the boys have played in the SPFL and Lowland League, so me coming in, I’m all ears. I’m listening in to the older lads, and really just trying to prove to myself that I can be a good player at this level.

“So I was happy that I was getting a start – that was my first goal, get in and get a start.

“Now it’s all about can I start having better performances, and hopefully next season it’ll be on a better note and we can kick on.”
