Harris faces lengthy spell on sidelines

Berwick midfielder Alex Harris faces the prospect of spending the entire 2024/25 season out injured, following an injury suffered in the pre-season friendly against Morpeth Town yesterday.

Following an assessment by club physio Calum O’Donnell at the ground, Harris went to hospital for further scans. These confirmed Calum’s fears that Harris has suffered a rupture of his achilles tendon. In all likelihood, this means that the 29 year-old will not feature in the upcoming season.

The former Hibs, Dundee, Falkirk and York City player has played 87 games in total for the ‘Gers, including 72 starts. He has scored 9 goals for the club, including a memorable goal in a man of the match performance against Gretna 2008 in front of the BBC Scotland cameras in the Scottish Cup in 2021. Harris is sponsored (home & away) by supporter Gavin Marshall. His travel and training kit remain available.

Speaking after yesterday’s match with Morpeth, Berwick manager Thomas Scobbie said, ‘If Alex’s injury does turn out to be serious, it will be a major blow to us. Alex is a massive part of the way we want to play, and is an equally important person in the dressing room.’

All at the club send Alex their best wishes, and hope he has as speedy and successful recovery as possible.
