This week Berwick Rangers Supporters Club agreed a deal with Tweedmouth Rangers Football Club for the local side to operate from Old Shielfield.
The club, formed in 2010, have enjoyed a relatively successful opening five years and being based at Old Shielfield is perfectly exemplifies the club’s ambition.
Club captain Kieran Cromarty (left) can be seen shaking hands with Supporters Club chairman and Berwick Rangers board member Bill Parkin following the signing of the contract which will see the team play out fixtures at Shielfield for the forseeable future.
Tweedmouth also have a ready-made connection at the club, as when groundsman Ross Aitchison is away from the Shielfield Park pitch, he can often be seen gracing those of the North Northumberland League in the black and orange of Tweedmouth.
On the move, Cromarty noted: “The pitch is in immaculate condition. Ross keeps it to a very high standard. We’ve put advertising boards down one side and began work on implementing dugouts.
“The concrete bases are already in so we’re hoping that work will be complete in a couple of weeks.
“It’s great of Berwick Rangers and Berwick Rangers Supporters Club to allow us use of their facilities, so it’s good to give a little back and invest in the facility.”
It wasn’t just the pitch which impressed Kieran either, who declares: “The facilities we have make it a great place to play.
“It’s became a place we don’t just play, but meet up and enjoy a drink post-match. The hospitality at Berwick is fantastic. It’s got to the stage where players don’t want to leave after games.
“It’s a bit of a rarity to have your own pitch in Berwick. Most are shared among a couple of teams.
“I’d like to thank the two organisations for their help in making the deal happen.”
