Eight Players Depart

Berwick Rangers can this evening confirm that eight players have left Shielfield Park upon completion of the 2017/18 season.

Firstly, as has already been confirmed, two former captains have decided to end their playing careers. Steven Notman has retired following his testimonial season at the club whilst Jonny Fairbairn has begins his managerial career at East of Scotland side Coldstream. The two players racked up over 430 appearances between them.

Secondly, three loan players return to their parent clubs. Goalkeeper Robby McCrorie returns to Rangers after a successful season between the sticks for the Gers. The 20-year-old made 42 appearances, kept eight clean sheets and ended the season with a place in the Scotland Under 21 squad for an upcoming tournament. Jack Hamilton, who earned the 2017/18 top scorer award after a double at Clyde, returns to Livingston. The 17-year-old enjoyed a great start to his professional career after a deadline day move from the Championship runners up. Alex Petkov also returns to parent club Heart of Midlothian. The 18-year old made six appearances for Robbie Horn’s side.

Paul Simpson, Kevin McKinlay and Steven Thomson have also left the club. Paul Simpson, formally of St Johnstone Under 20s, featured in the second half of 2017/18 after being promoted from Berwick’s Under 20s squad. Kevin Mckinlay and Steven Thomson both move on after two seasons at Shielfield Park. Thomson, who was the top scorer in 2016/17, netted 17 goals for the club.

The club would like to thank all the players for their efforts and wish every one of them the very best for the future.
