Civil Service Strollers 2-1 Berwick Rangers Match Report

An improved second half performance wasn’t enough to stop Berwick falling to a fourth consecutive league defeat at Civil Service Strollers.
Grant Leitch’s goal gave Berwick hope in the last 15 minutes but it was too little too late.
Berwick got off to a nightmare start when Euan Valentine’s cross was volleyed in by Trialist after just 22 seconds.
Civil controlled the first half and added a second midway through when Valentine found space on the left again and picked out Alieu Faye to steer home.
Berwick were much improved in the second half but couldn’t find the breakthrough until 15 minutes from time – Michael Mbewe doing well down the left to pull it back for Leitch to turn home.
Bayley Klimionek hit the bar from a free kick as Berwick pushed late on before Greg Binnie was denied right at the death to consign Berwick to another league defeat.
Poor first half kills Berwick
“Ultimately, we’re sat here with the points we deserve from today’s performance.”
There was little holding back from Kevin Haynes after what was a 6th league defeat in eight games and a first half performance up there with some of the poorer ones in recent years.
Civil were in complete control and had the answer for every possible thing Berwick threw their way in the first 45.
While the second was better and there were some small positives in that, the reality is stark – 4 points from a possible 24.
